Transitions

Transitions are challenging, no matter where you are in your journey in life. But they can also lead to a richer, more rewarding and absolutely fun space in your life.

Somewhere in the last 40 years I have gone from college to career to single motherhood to parenting a teenager in a new marriage to empty nester staring down the precipice of retirement. A whole lot of life lessons learned the hard way. Over the last year I have been following a learning path about AARP related topics like: Medicare, Social Security, retirement income planning, estate planning and over 55 communities. How the hell did I get to this point? It is both scary and oddly comforting that figuring out the ins and outs and math of these subjects leads to greater confidence about the road ahead.

But what I think is the more challenging proposition is finding meaning and purpose in the next third of our lives without being defined by “what we do for a living”. We have all heard the phrase “Retire TO Something” and we are really late to this party. We suck at golf, we don’t fly fish and rock climbing is out for us with our fear of heights! Living in an area that draws people that thrive on outdoor activities will challenge us to get out and explore beyond our comfort zone. To travel the unknown paths, trails and highways of our future.

Join me as I explore the transition from dual careers to purposeful lives not defined by our life’s work.
